President Tinubu Arrives in Paris for Historic State Visit
President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Paris, France, for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and France. His arrival at Orly Airport on November 27, 2024, was marked by military honors from the French Republican Guard, following an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron.
The visit is significant as it is the first by a Nigerian leader to France in over two decades. It seeks to enhance cooperation in several key areas, including agriculture, security, education, health, youth engagement, innovation, and energy transition. These discussions are expected to yield substantial benefits for Nigeria, particularly in economic investment and youth-focused exchange programs.
Throughout the visit, Tinubu and Macron are set to meet at the Franco-Nigerian Business Council, where they will discuss potential investments and partnerships. The council was originally launched during Macron’s presidential visit to Nigeria in 2018 and plays a crucial role in fostering economic collaboration between the two nations.
During his stay, Tinubu will participate in various official engagements. On Thursday, he will be hosted at the historic Les Invalides and later at the Élysée Palace for formal ceremonies and bilateral meetings with President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron. The agenda includes discussions on enhancing political and economic ties, addressing shared values concerning finance, trade, and investment, as well as initiatives to empower women and vulnerable populations through Nigeria’s First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative.
