In the wake of the tragic stampede during a funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has addressed concerns regarding his relationship with Oriyomi Hamzat, the owner of Agidigbo FM. Following the incident, which resulted in multiple casualties, there were fears expressed on social media that Makinde's personal ties might compromise justice. However, he firmly rejected these notions, stating, “My relationship with Oriyomi Hamzat won't affect justice. No life is more important than another."
Governor Makinde emphasized that the law will take its due course in addressing the tragedy. He acknowledged the public's skepticism, saying, “I listened to people on social media who were saying that because I know Oriyomi Hamzat, justice won't prevail. I said to myself that this is not true."
The governor's remarks come at a critical time when public trust in governmental processes is paramount. By asserting that no individual is above the law, Makinde aims to reassure the victims' families and the community that accountability will be upheld. He noted that every life lost in this incident holds equal value and deserves justice, reinforcing his administration's stance on fairness and transparency.
