Osun APC Dismisses Aregbesola’s Supporters, Says Their Exit Is No Loss
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly dismissed the significance of the recent departure of a faction led by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, known as the Omoluabi Progressives. In a statement issued on January 27, 2025, APC spokesman Kola Olabisi characterized the announcement of their exit as "a good riddance to bad rubbish," emphasizing that many members had already been expelled or suspended from the party prior to this decision.
Olabisi criticized the Omoluabi Progressives for their claims of resignation, questioning how individuals who had been expelled could formally announce their exit. He claimed that the group had been working against the interests of the APC and described them as "agents of the Peoples Democratic Party" (PDP) in Osun State. He further stated that the APC would not miss Aregbesola's supporters, asserting that they had already distanced themselves from the party's core during the 2022 governorship election.
Yesterday, Rauf Aregbesola and his faction, the Omoluabi Progressives, announced their exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, citing reasons such as ostracization, unfair suspensions, and expulsions of their leaders without due process. This decision followed a consensus reached during a monthly meeting where members expressed dissatisfaction with the APC's management and its handling of internal crises, which they believe contributed to electoral losses. Aregbesola commended his supporters for their commitment to good governance and indicated that they would now focus on building the Omoluabi Progressives as a political force ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
