Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), effective Monday, February 10, 2025. The appointment was announced in a statement by the governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Ibrahim was selected based on his extensive experience and expertise in governance and public administration. His career spans over three decades of distinguished public service from 1987 to 2023, marked by key leadership positions that significantly contributed to Kano State's governance structure.
Ibrahim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University. His academic background is complemented by various professional certifications and training programs that have equipped him with advanced skills in public policy management and strategic planning.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that Ibrahim’s appointment would significantly contribute to realizing his administration’s vision for Kano State. He emphasized the importance of experienced leadership in steering the state toward sustained development and growth. As noted:
Ibrahim previously served as Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs from March 2001 to May 2015. He also held roles such as Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services from June 2015 to March 2016. Notably, he acted as SSG during annual leaves in both 2013 and 2014.
