NNPC Denies Claims in Viral Video Regarding Petrol Quality
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has strongly refuted claims made in a viral video suggesting that its petrol is of inferior quality compared to that from the Dangote Refinery. In a statement issued on February 15, 2025, NNPC's Chief Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, described the video's assertions as "baseless" and stemming from "unverified and amateur research" lacking credibility.
The video featured a comparison test where petrol from NNPC was said to last significantly shorter than that from Dangote. However, Soneye emphasized that a substantial portion of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC outlets in Lagos (where the video was created) is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, which adheres to strict industry standards. He warned that NNPC would pursue legal action against those spreading false information aimed at damaging its reputation.
Soneye reiterated NNPC's commitment to providing high-quality fuel and urged the public to rely on verified information rather than misleading content circulating on social media.
