Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revoked the land allocated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its national secretariat in Abuja. The decision comes after the party failed to pay annual ground rents for over two decades.
The PDP had been allocated Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja, for its national secretariat. However, despite multiple public notices urging compliance, the party did not settle the outstanding dues from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025.
A letter dated March 13, 2025, signed by the Director of Land Administration (FCTA), Chijioke Nwankwoeze, communicated the revocation. The FCTA cited Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act as the legal basis for the action, stating that the PDP contravened the terms and conditions of the land grant.
The FCTA had issued repeated notifications through national dailies and electronic media, urging landowners to clear outstanding payments. Despite these efforts, the PDP did not comply, leading to the revocation.
The revocation means that the FCTA will take immediate possession of the property until all outstanding payments are cleared. This development could have significant implications for the PDP, which had intended to use the land for its national secretariat.
The land contains a building intended to serve as the party’s new secretariat, though construction is still incomplete. There has been no official statement from the PDP regarding the revocation.
