Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, assured residents of Plateau State on Saturday that security agencies will bring an end to the killings that have affected communities in the state.
In the past three weeks, over 100 people have been killed and properties destroyed in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.
Badaru visited communities in Bassa that were attacked by gunmen and expressed the government’s commitment to securing the residents and their property.
“We are here on behalf of the Federal Government to identify and share in your grief,” Badaru said. “We want to assure you that security operatives will bring these senseless killings to an end.”
He added that the government will get to the root of the matter and apprehend those who committed the act, while President Bola Tinubu has ordered that the perpetrators face justice. The government is collaborating with the Plateau State government to prevent future incidents.
Badaru also said that the government would engage with stakeholders in the affected communities to curb the killings.
The paramount ruler of Irigwe chiefdom, Brra Ngwe Ronku Aku, thanked the minister for the visit and appealed to the government and security operatives to intensify efforts to end the violence.
“We are ready to collaborate with the government towards bringing lasting peace to our chiefdom and the state in general,” Aku said, appealing to the government to help rebuild destroyed buildings and restore livelihoods.
