NFF Rewards Falcons Coach Madugu with Two-Year Contract Extension

Super Falcons Head Coach Justine Madugu has confirmed he has been offered a new two-year contract by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The announcement came shortly after the Super Falcons secured qualification for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Tuesday.

The contract extension solidifies the 61-year-old's position as the permanent head coach of the African champions. Madugu, who had been in an interim role, led the Falcons to an historic 10th WAFCON title in 2024.

Speaking at a post-match conference in Abeokuta, Madugu revealed the terms of his new deal. “I have been given a new contract from October 1, 2025, till October 1, 2027,” he stated.

The confirmation followed Nigeria's 3-1 aggregate victory over the Benin Republic in the WAFCON qualifier, which concluded with a 1-1 draw in the second leg. Madugu admitted the performance was below the team's high standard but was satisfied with the final result.

“We are not too disappointed. We are taking it as a wake-up call for us to know that there’s more work to be done,” Madugu added, noting that the draw was a lesson ahead of the main tournament.

The NFF’s decision to offer a long-term deal is seen as a reward for Madugu's success, which includes leading the team to a WAFCON title and securing qualification for the next edition, which serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
