Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, voiced strong opposition to the newly introduced Training and Nigerian Development bill during a Senate debate on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. He questioned the necessity of the legislation, arguing that it duplicates the existing training provisions already embedded within Nigerian government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
In a pointed statement captured in a viral video from the session, Oshiomhole challenged the rationale behind creating laws "for everything," emphasising that the country already hosts multiple institutions with training departments. "What is the meaning of Training and Nigerian Development? We have established several institutions, and every organisation has a training department. Why are we creating laws for everything, for Training and Nigerian Development? It doesn’t make sense to me. With due respect, sir, laws are laws and not motions," he declared.
The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, acknowledged Oshiomhole’s critique during the proceedings, highlighting the Senate’s awareness of the issues raised.
