Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has congratulated Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo on his overwhelming re-election, hailing the November 2025 poll as evidence that Nigeria can deliver credible elections when democratic principles are upheld.
The congratulatory message, released Monday via X, described Soludo’s win as a “landslide” rooted in public trust and effective governance.
“His re-election is a reflection of his good performance in the last four or so years and the deep love the people of Anambra have for him,” Adeleke stated through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.
Adeleke commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Prof. Amupitan for conducting a transparent process. “This is a commendable start to his tenure as electoral chief,” the governor said, urging the commission to build on the achievement.
He called for sustained reforms to eliminate persistent flaws in Nigeria’s electoral system. The praise quickly pivoted to a broader critique of electoral misconduct nationwide.
Adeleke warned that democracy cannot thrive amid vote rigging, voter intimidation, or political thuggery. “We must sanction any politician threatening to or engaging in electoral robbery,” he declared.
He framed the Anambra result as a model for the country. “Free and fair election is possible when true democrats superintend the electoral process,” the statement read.
Adeleke stressed that power originates from the people, not from coercion or manipulation. “The people are the bosses and they chose who presides over the affairs of their states,” he said.
The governor urged political leaders to view every election as a chance to strengthen public confidence in governance.
Soludo, running on the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform, dominated the contest, winning all of Anambra’s 21 local government areas, according to INEC’s official declaration. The former Central Bank governor has been credited with infrastructure upgrades and economic reforms during his first term.
The Osun governor concluded by urging the political class to outlaw “electoral robbery” to safeguard democracy. “The bedrock of a sustainable democracy is free and fair elections where the choices of voters are respected,” he said.
