2 Corinthians 4:7 (KJV)
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
This verse is a profound reminder of God’s divine power working through human weakness. The “treasure” refers to the light of the gospel — the revelation of Jesus Christ dwelling within us. We, as “earthen vessels,” are fragile and imperfect, yet chosen to carry something infinitely precious. This contrast magnifies the glory of God, showing that every success, every miracle, every victory in our lives stems not from our strength, but from His Spirit within us.
In a world that prizes self-sufficiency and strength, this truth brings freedom. We do not have to be flawless for God to use us. He delights in working through our brokenness, so that His excellence shines through. When we face trials, limitations, or moments of weakness, we can rest in the assurance that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in us — transforming, sustaining, and revealing His glory.
The treasure within us is not diminished by the cracks in our vessel; rather, those cracks become the channels through which His light shines brightest.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for placing Your treasure within me. I acknowledge that I am weak and imperfect, yet You have chosen to fill me with Your glory and power. Help me to walk humbly, remembering that all excellence and strength come from You alone. Let Your light shine through my words, my actions, and even my struggles, so that others may see Your grace in me. Strengthen me daily, Lord, and let my life continually reflect Your power and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
