Adamawa State Cancels New Year's Crossover Concert Amid Heightened Security Fears

The Adamawa State Government has cancelled its annual crossover night celebration, scrapping a major public concert at the iconic Unity Flyover in Jimeta-Yola that was set to ring in the New Year with music, performances, and large crowds.

The decision, announced late on Tuesday, December 30, comes after earlier preparations, including temporary road closures starting December 29 to facilitate the event. The cancellation prioritises public safety following credible intelligence indicating potential security threats in the region.

“Based on credible intelligence reports that border on security, the Adamawa State Government has cancelled all activities planned for the Cross Over Night on 31st December 2025 to 1st January 2026 at the Unity Fly-Over in Jimeta-Yola,” read the official notice issued from Government House.

The statement was released by Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. Authorities urged residents, particularly those in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas, to exercise vigilance, avoid crowded places, and promptly report any suspicious activity to security agencies.

The annual crossover event has become a staple under Governor Fintiri's administration since 2019, drawing thousands for live performances by local and national artists. Just days earlier, on December 28, the state had publicised the temporary shutdown of the busy Unity Flyover junction to accommodate preparations, with Commissioner for Works and Energy Development Adamu Atiku, who chaired the 2025 Crossover Committee, confirming the arrangements.

Governor Fintiri, who has previously emphasised peacebuilding and development, has not issued a personal comment on the latest decision, but the official notice underscores that citizen safety remains paramount. The government assured ongoing collaboration with security forces and promised updates as necessary.
