Burna Boy Donates $100,000 to VeryDarkMan for Prison Releases and Hospital Bill Relief

Grammy Award-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has made a significant humanitarian gesture by donating $100,000 (approximately ₦145–150 million) to social media activist VeryDarkMan (real name Martins Vincent Otse), earmarked exclusively for charitable causes.

The announcement came on December 26, 2025, when VeryDarkMan shared a widely circulated video revealing the gift. He explained that the funds would be divided equally: $50,000 to pay court-imposed fines for inmates detained for minor offences, and $50,000 to settle outstanding medical bills for indigent patients in public and government hospitals nationwide.

"Many detainees are reportedly held not for serious crimes but due to inability to pay relatively small court-imposed fines, ranging from ₦30,000 to ₦300,000," VeryDarkMan stated in the video, highlighting a systemic issue in Nigeria's correctional facilities.

He pledged full transparency in the distribution process, noting plans to collect data from all 36 states to identify eligible beneficiaries fairly. "Thank you, Burna Boy, for this kind gesture... for trusting me with this much money and believing that I will carry out this project," VeryDarkMan said, expressing deep gratitude for the singer's faith in his Ratel Movement initiatives.

The initiative is expected to provide immediate relief and a "fresh start" for beneficiaries heading into 2026, addressing long-standing issues of incarceration due to poverty and healthcare access barriers.
