ADC Disowns Planned South-West Chairman Inauguration
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally distanced itself from reports regarding the planned inauguration of a South-West Zonal Chairman and executive committee, labelling the circulated information as unauthorised and false.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, issued a statement on Thursday clarifying that the national leadership had neither sanctioned the appointment of a regional head nor approved any ceremony for the zone.
This denial follows the circulation of invitations for an event scheduled for January 31, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The invitations claimed that Rahman Owokoniran would be inaugurated as the Zonal Chairman alongside a new slate of regional executives.
“This is to inform the general public that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has not appointed any South-West Chairman,” Abdullahi stated in a post shared via the party’s official channels. He further emphasised that the party is not planning to inaugurate anyone into such a position at this time.
The clarification comes at a sensitive moment for the ADC, which has been undergoing significant internal reorganisation following a 2025 coalition that saw high-profile figures join its ranks. The party’s national structure currently features former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman and former Interior Minister Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.
The ADC leadership remains firm that all zonal and state appointments must follow the due process outlined in the party's constitution and receive explicit approval from the national headquarters in Abuja to be considered valid.
