Augsburg Stuns Bayern Munich with Late Comeback, Ending Unbeaten Bundesliga Run

FC Augsburg delivered one of the biggest upsets of the 2025-2026 Bundesliga season on Saturday, defeating league leaders Bayern Munich 2-1 at the Allianz Arena. The result snapped Bayern's impressive 27-game unbeaten streak in the domestic league and handed them their first defeat of the campaign.

Bayern took the lead in the 23rd minute through defender Hiroki Ito, who headed home from a precise cross by Michael Olise. The hosts dominated much of the first half but failed to extend their advantage, with star forward Harry Kane unable to find the net despite several opportunities.

Augsburg, battling relegation fears and entering the match in precarious form, mounted a remarkable second-half revival. Arthur Chaves levelled the score in the 75th minute, capitalising on a well-worked move assisted by Kömür. Just six minutes later, Han-Noah Massengo sealed the victory with a decisive strike in the 81st minute, assisted by Dimitrios Giannoulis.

The late goals stunned the home crowd and marked Augsburg's first league win at the Allianz Arena in over a decade, ending an 11-year away drought against Bayern. The visitors climbed to 13th in the table, gaining crucial breathing room from the drop zone.

Bayern remain atop the standings with a substantial lead, but the loss exposed vulnerabilities in Vincent Kompany's side.

The defeat ends Bayern's unbeaten run that dated back to March 2025, their last league loss prior to this encounter. Despite the setback, Bayern's dominance in the title race continues, though the result serves as a reminder that no lead is insurmountable.
