President Bola Tinubu is set to arrive in Kebbi State on Saturday for a high-profile one-day official visit centred on infrastructure development and the celebration of Nigeria’s cultural heritage. The visit marks the President’s first official trip to the state, where he is scheduled to inaugurate a series of multi-billion naira projects completed by the administration of Governor Nasir Idris before attending the 61st edition of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.
According to an official statement released Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President will serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the historic festival. The event, staged along the banks of the Matan Fada river, is recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and serves as a major pillar of Nigeria’s tourism sector.
The 2026 edition marks the 61st time the event has been staged since its inception in 1934 as a peace initiative between the Sokoto Caliphate and the Kebbi Kingdom. Over the decades, it has evolved into a global attraction that draws thousands of fishermen competing to catch the largest fish using only traditional nets and gourds.
