The decisive moment arrived in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Rayan Cherki carved open the Leeds defence with a threaded pass to Rayan Aït-Nouri, whose low cross was clinically converted by Semenyo. It was the Ghana international’s sixth goal for the club since arriving from Bournemouth.
Despite the absence of star striker Erling Haaland due to a training injury, Pep Guardiola’s side displayed the defensive resilience required for a title charge. Rúben Dias and Marc Guéhi anchored a backline that successfully neutralised an energetic Leeds attack led by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Leeds had chances to level the score, most notably through a Calvert-Lewin effort that whistled wide early on. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow also kept the hosts in the contest with a spectacular save to deny a Guéhi header in the second half.
