Manchester City narrowed the gap at the top of the Premier League to just three points after a high-stakes 2–1 victory over leaders Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Erling Haaland’s clinical second-half finish proved the difference in a match that saw the defending champions maintain their momentum while leaving Arsenal's title lead vulnerable ahead of the final weeks of the season.

The encounter exploded into life in the 15th minute when Rayan Cherki opened the scoring for the hosts, weaving through the Arsenal defence to beat David Raya. However, the Gunners responded almost instantly through Kai Havertz, who charged down a clearance from City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma just two minutes later to restore parity. City regained control in the 64th minute as Haaland held off Gabriel Magalhães to turn in a cross from Nico O’Reilly.

Arsenal pressed for a late equaliser and twice struck the woodwork, with Eberechi Eze and Gabriel both coming agonisingly close to securing a point for the London side. The result leaves Arsenal on 70 points from 33 matches, while City sit on 67 points with a game in hand. If Pep Guardiola’s side wins their pending fixture against Burnley on Wednesday, they will move level on points with the Gunners.

Arsenal are seeking their first league title in 22 years but have now lost three of their last five games across all competitions.

Pep Guardiola had previously described the match as a "must-win," noting that a loss would have likely ended City’s title hopes. With the victory secured, the title race is now firmly in City's hands as they chase a sixth league championship under the Spaniard's tenure. City remain unbeaten in their last ten league matches, while Arsenal must now pivot to a Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
