President Bola Tinubu has formally accepted the resignations of Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. The clarification from the State House on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, corrects earlier reports of a cabinet "sack," confirming instead that both officials voluntarily stepped down prior to the announcement of their replacements.
Wale Edun, who turned 70 on Monday, cited health challenges as the primary reason for his departure. In a resignation letter submitted on his birthday, Edun expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, stating, "It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda." Before the public announcement on Tuesday, Edun held an hour-long valedictory meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa to discuss his transition back to the private sector.
Ahmed Musa Dangiwa also tendered his resignation, marking the end of a tenure that began in August 2023. An architect by profession, Dangiwa previously served as the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank and Secretary to the Katsina State Government. In his exit statement, he thanked the President for the chance to serve within the Federal Executive Council.
In response to these departures, President Tinubu expressed "deep appreciation" for their contributions to the administration’s economic reform programs. He specifically called on the newly appointed Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to "consolidate ongoing reforms and advance the administration’s fiscal and economic objectives with renewed focus."
The President is expected to transmit the name of the new ministerial nominee for Housing, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, to the Senate for confirmation shortly. Like his predecessor Dangiwa, Darma hails from Katsina State.
