President Bola Tinubu has approved a strategic cabinet reshuffle, removing Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development. The directive, issued on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, marks a significant shift in the administration's fiscal leadership during a period of critical economic reforms.

In a swift transition, Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to the position of substantive Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele, a former chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, had only recently been sworn in as Minister of State for Finance in March 2026. He now takes full control of the ministry to lead the administration's "Renewed Hope" economic agenda.

For the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the President named Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new ministerial nominee. Outgoing minister Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over operations to the Minister of State pending Darma's formal confirmation by the Senate.

The presidency has set a strict deadline for the transition, ordering all outgoing officials to complete their handover processes by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026. This timeline emphasises the administration's desire for an immediate pivot in policy execution and ministerial coordination.

According to a statement signed by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the reshuffle is aimed at "strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance." SGF George Akume further clarified that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 to ensure the Federal Executive Council remains responsive to national priorities.
