The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, Adegbenro Adeola, following a dramatic high-speed chase that ended with an abducted man being thrown from a moving vehicle in Akure. The successful operation, which occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, led to the rescue of the victim, Kayode Alaba, and the recovery of the syndicate’s operational vehicle.
Police operatives on routine patrol along the Oba-Ile axis were alerted by witnesses to a distress situation involving a red Toyota Camry. According to official reports, the victim was heard screaming for help from within the vehicle as it sped through the state capital. The patrol team immediately mobilised and initiated a coordinated pursuit of the suspects.
In a desperate attempt to evade capture during the chase, the kidnappers reportedly forced Mr. Alaba out of the moving car. Despite the shock of the maneuver, the police team continued their pursuit of the fleeing vehicle. The chase culminated in the interception of the Camry and the arrest of Adeola, although other members of the criminal gang managed to escape the scene on foot.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the breakthrough in a statement issued on Wednesday. He noted that the suspect is believed to be part of a larger gang that has been terrorising residents in various parts of Akure. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr. Alaba had been abducted earlier that day from his residence located along Irese Road.
“Ondo State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough with the successful rescue of a kidnapped victim and the arrest of one suspect in Akure,” Jimoh stated. He added that the victim is currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during the incident, while the arrested suspect has begun providing useful information to aid the capture of his accomplices.
The case has been formally transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit in Akure for further investigation. Police authorities have used the incident to reiterate their call for public cooperation, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue providing the credible intelligence necessary to sustain security operations across the state.
