The 26-year-old Norwegian international secured the historic moment in the 26th minute, connecting with an accurate cross from Antoine Semenyo following a buildup pass from debutant Enzo Fernández. The goal sealed a third consecutive win for Manchester City, keeping their perfect record intact to remain at the top of the Premier League standings.
Haaland reached the 300-goal milestone across four clubs in just 368 appearances, achieving the feat faster than modern greats Kylian Mbappé (398 games) and Cristiano Ronaldo (499 games). His career total encompasses 20 goals for Molde FK, 29 for Red Bull Salzburg, 86 for Borussia Dortmund, and 165 for Manchester City. The header also marked his 20th Premier League goal scored with his head for Manchester City, breaking Sergio Agüero's previous club record of 19.
Despite marking a milestone night, Haaland acknowledged that the home side should have closed out the contest earlier after missing subsequent chances.
"I should have scored more goals to finish the game off, but I didn't, so I made it difficult for the team and managed to keep Coventry in the game until the end," Haaland told ESPN. "In the Premier League, if you don't execute, it will be difficult."
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca emphasised the value of grinding out the result despite the missed opportunities.
"It is an important win, different from the first two," Maresca said in an official club statement. "Today, 9/10 times you finish conceding because we kept them alive by missing chances. In the end, we finished by suffering together, and it is an important win."
Coventry manager Frank Lampard expressed satisfaction with his team's disciplined tactical performance despite the outcome.
"Good performance from us. Felt like we deserved something from the game," Lampard stated to Sky Sports. "Our defensive organisation was great. The players took on the challenge really well; they are disappointed and so am I."
