Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will today kick off his 2027 presidential campaign in Sokoto State under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The campaign flag-off is scheduled to hold at the party's state secretariat located at No. 1 Ilorin Road, Sokoto, on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the party announced.
The ADC State Presidential Campaign Coordinator, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that Atiku is expected to arrive at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, by 9 a.m.
Lamido invited party supporters, leaders and members of the public to turn out in large numbers to receive the former Vice President at the airport before proceeding to the campaign venue.
The event marks the formal commencement of ADC's presidential campaign activities in Sokoto as political parties intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The flag-off comes after the party postponed the event from its initial date of Saturday, October 31, to address planning and coordination issues, according to the Presidential Campaign Council in Sokoto.
The campaign is taking place amid heightened political tension in the state. The ADC had deliberately withheld the venue earlier, citing fears of intimidation and suppression, and accused the Sokoto State Government of sealing its campaign office along Ahmadu Bello Way and denying it access to public facilities.
On Friday night, gunmen opened fire on the convoy of the party's governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan'iya, near the airport, the party alleged.
Atiku, on Tuesday night, also accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of plotting to recruit protesters to disrupt the rally to create a pretext for a curfew, an allegation that has not been independently verified. The DSS has said its Director-General ordered an investigation into the claim.
The ADC said it expects a massive turnout across all 23 local government areas for the event, which it described as an opportunity to consolidate its support base and present its agenda to voters ahead of 2027.
