Chidimma Adetshina: From Miss Universe Pageant to New Beginnings

Chidimma Adetshina, Nigeria's representative at the 2024 Miss Universe pageant, has announced her decision to step back from beauty pageants following her historic achievement as the first runner-up. In an exclusive interview after her return to Nigeria, Adetshina expressed immense pride in her accomplishment, stating, “I was so emotional when I was called into the top five. I had prepared myself mentally just to make it into the top 30. Surpassing my own expectations has made me very proud of myself.”

The competition, held on November 16 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, saw Adetshina compete against 125 contestants from around the world. Her performance not only marked a significant milestone for Nigeria but also made her the first runner-up from West Africa in the pageant's history. She further distinguished herself by being crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania during the event.

Despite her success, Adetshina plans to prioritize her education and explore opportunities in modeling and acting. “I want to put pageants aside for now and concentrate on my studies. I also want to explore other opportunities to establish myself,” she shared.

Adetshina’s journey to this point was fraught with challenges, including public scrutiny regarding her nationality that led to her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant earlier this year. She remarked on this experience, saying, “People are very interested in the story... I cannot make any statements. Once I have all the facts, I will provide clarity on the matter.”

As she steps back from pageantry, Adetshina is set to work on various projects with the Miss Universe organization, focusing on development initiatives across countries. Her story serves as an inspiring reminder that perseverance can lead to remarkable achievements, even in the face of adversity.
