Clement Adesuyi Haastrup Named Owa Obokun of Ijesaland

Clement Adesuyi Haastrup has been officially appointed as the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, succeeding the late Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran. The announcement came after a selection process conducted by the traditional kingmakers at the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat on December 27, 2024. Haastrup, representing the Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House, triumphed over nine other candidates.

Isaac Haastrup, the Public Relations Officer of the Bilaro Ruling House, confirmed the outcome, stating, “Looja Clement Adesuyi Haastrup has been elected as the Owa Obokun Ajimoko III and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.” The Head of Local Government Administration in Ilesa West, Mrs. Felicia Olabimtan, announced that Haastrup received the highest number of votes, officially confirming his position as Owa Obokun-elect.

While some kingmakers chose to refrain from commenting on the results immediately, Oba Festus Awogboro of Ibokun acknowledged his participation in the voting but was unaware of the final outcome. He stated, “I only voted; I don’t know the result. Thank you.” Other kingmakers echoed similar sentiments, indicating a need for time to verify the election results.

Haastrup’s appointment has been formally approved by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke. In his remarks, Governor Adeleke emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within Ijesaland during this transition period. He expressed optimism that Haastrup’s leadership would contribute significantly to community development and cultural preservation.

Having previously served as deputy governor under Senator Isiaka Adeleke from 1992 to 1993, Haastrup brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Expressing gratitude for the support he received during the selection process, he pledged to prioritize the welfare of the community.
