APC Expels Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially expelled former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, over allegations of anti-party activities. This decision was made public in a letter signed by the APC leadership in Osun State, specifically by Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and Secretary Olabisi Kamoru, on January 29, 2025.

The expulsion follows a series of events that have strained Aregbesola's relationship with the APC. His faction, initially known as The Osun Progressives and later rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus, had announced its decision to leave the APC just days prior to his expulsion. This move was attributed to several grievances, including allegations of unfair treatment and neglect within the party structure.

The APC's decision to expel Aregbesola was based on findings from a disciplinary committee, which concluded that his actions violated Article 21 of the party's constitution. This article outlines the disciplinary measures for members who engage in activities that undermine the party's unity and integrity.

In the letter announcing his expulsion, the APC stated, "At the end of the investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) considered the report of the Disciplinary Committee. Having carefully reviewed the findings and recommendations, the SEC resolved to approve your immediate expulsion from the APC." The letter further emphasized that Aregbesola's actions "undermined the unity and integrity of the party," leading to the conclusion that he was no longer a member of the APC and should refrain from acting on its behalf.
