Oyo Palace Aide Defends Alaafin-Elect Owoade's Trip to Canada
The Media Team of the Alaafin of Oyo has come forward to defend the recent trip of the Alaafin-elect, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, to Canada, following questions raised about his absence shortly after his appointment. Oba Owoade, who officially received his staff of office and certificate of appointment from the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on January 13, 2025, traveled to Canada soon after the ceremony. According to the palace aide, this trip was necessary for the Alaafin-elect to finalize his work-related commitments and formally resign from his employment in Canada before fully assuming his responsibilities as the new monarch.
The aide clarified that Oba Owoade’s actions align with traditional expectations and do not undermine his readiness to fulfill his duties as the Alaafin of Oyo. It was explained that the Alaafin-elect could not immediately commence the traditional rites required for his coronation due to these unavoidable obligations. Sources revealed that Oba Owoade is currently in Canada completing paperwork related to his resignation from positions held at 100279 Manitoba Limited and Manitoba Hydro, where he serves as a Project Coordinator. These steps are reportedly critical for him to transition fully into his new role as a traditional ruler.
The traditional rites leading up to his coronation are extensive and require thorough preparation. His coronation is scheduled for April 4, 2025, during which he will undergo various rituals that will solidify his authority and spiritual connection as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
