China has declared its readiness to engage in "any form of conflict" as President Donald Trump intensifies economic pressure through increased tariffs. The U.S. has recently doubled tariffs on all Chinese imports to 20%, prompting Beijing to retaliate with tariffs ranging from 10% to 15% on select American agricultural products, including corn, wheat, and soybeans.

China's assertive stance comes as it sets an ambitious economic growth target of "around 5%" for 2025, despite facing significant challenges from the escalating trade war. Premier Li Qiang emphasized China's determination to overcome these hurdles, stating that the nation will rely on domestic demand as the primary driver of its economic growth. This shift is crucial as China's export-driven economy faces substantial threats from U.S. tariffs.

The National People's Congress, China's legislative body, has commenced in Beijing, where leaders are outlining strategies to bolster the economy. Premier Li Qiang's address highlighted the importance of navigating through "tumultuous waters" and maintaining confidence in China's economic resilience. Additionally, China has increased its defense budget by 7.2% this year, signaling a broader strategic response to global challenges.

China's response to U.S. tariffs includes not only economic measures but also diplomatic efforts. Beijing has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization and imposed export restrictions on several U.S. firms. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has dismissed U.S. justifications for the tariffs, urging Washington to return to dialogue and cooperation.

As tensions rise, both nations are engaged in a high-stakes game of economic and political maneuvering. The U.S. actions have also drawn reactions from other countries, including Canada and Mexico, which are facing similar tariffs. The ongoing trade conflict between the U.S. and China continues to cast a shadow over global economic stability, with analysts warning of potential long-term impacts on trade and investment.
