Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has asserted that local government councils in the state have no excuse for failing to execute impactful projects that improve the socioeconomic well-being of their communities.
Eno's statement was delivered during the inauguration of the 5,000-capacity Eket City Hall and the foundation laying of an ultra-modern legislative complex in Eket Local Government Area. Mr. Frank Archibong, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, represented the governor at the event as reported by Vanguard.
The governor emphasized that the projects are in line with his administration’s ARISE Agenda, noting that the City Hall will serve as an event center and a revenue source for the council. He also highlighted the disbursement of a N50 million grant and the commencement of the legislative chamber project as significant milestones.
Mr. Akaniyene Tommey, Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, stated that the projects demonstrate his administration’s commitment to the ARISE Agenda. He described the Eket City Hall as a symbol of unity and progress with the potential to boost revenue and create jobs. Tommey also noted the launch of the Eket ARISE Empowerment Initiative SmallBiz Grant, which distributed N50 million to 500 entrepreneurs, as a commitment to supporting small and medium enterprises.
