The Presidency has categorically dismissed claims that Vice President Kashim Shettima was barred from entering the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, describing the allegation as a “malicious fabrication” designed to undermine the relationship between Shettima and President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), labeled the report as “baseless” and “the wildest expression of wishful thinking” by purveyors of fake news. The denial follows viral social media posts and blog articles claiming military personnel blocked Shettima’s entry into the Villa.
Nkwocha dismissed the claims as part of a “coordinated effort to distract the administration” and emphasized the “unshakable unity” between the two leaders.
“These reports are entirely fictitious and a deliberate attempt to create unnecessary tension,” Nkwocha stated. “The Vice President’s access to the Villa, like all official engagements, remains seamless and in line with protocol.”
This incident follows a recent wave of debunked claims, including unfounded speculation about early 2027 election campaigns. The Presidency has repeatedly attributed such rumors to “bad-faith actors” seeking to exploit Nigeria’s political landscape for clout or division.
Nkwocha reiterated that Shettima remains “fully committed” to his duties, including his role in driving the Tinubu administration’s economic agenda, and urged the public to rely on verified channels for information.
