The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern warning to Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates: disregard fraudulent messages circulating that instruct them to reprint their examination slips for another resit. These deceptive messages are being disseminated through a "spoofed version" of JAMB's official short code.
JAMB clarified today that there are currently no widespread scheduled examinations for the majority of candidates. The board emphasized that candidates who have successfully participated in the recent resit examination and received their results should not be alarmed by these fake notifications. "Such messages are fraudulent and intended to sow confusion," the statement read.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's Public Communication Advisor, reiterated that the only examinations the board plans to conduct in the near future, which are yet to be scheduled, include foreign examinations in nine countries across Europe, the Middle East, and certain African nations. Additionally, there will be a special mop-up examination reserved for candidates who missed both the main and resit examinations due to specific circumstances, primarily those who experienced biometric failures and have been granted waivers.
The board strongly advised the public to remain vigilant and dismiss these misleading messages. JAMB assured that eligible candidates for the mop-up examination will be officially notified once all necessary preparations are finalized. This warning comes amidst ongoing efforts by JAMB to combat examination malpractice and fraudulent activities. Candidates are encouraged to rely solely on official JAMB channels for information regarding their examinations and results to avoid falling victim to scammers.
