 Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup was officially crowned as the new Owa Obokun Adimula, Ajimoko III, of Ijeshaland on May 23, 2025, in a vibrant and culturally rich coronation ceremony held at the royal palace in Ilesa.




The event drew a large crowd of dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and thousands of Ijesha people celebrating the ascension of their new monarch. Notable attendees included President Bola Tinubu (represented by Minister Adegboyega Oyetola), former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and prominent Yoruba traditional rulers such as the Ooni of Ife.


Oba Haastrup, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State and respected businessman, succeeds the late Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II. The ceremony featured traditional rites, drumming, dancing, and activities that showcased the rich heritage of the Ijesha people.


In his address, Oba Haastrup pledged to lead with wisdom, fairness, and humility, emphasizing unity and the preservation of Ijesha culture. President Tinubu, through his representative, congratulated the new monarch and urged him to promote unity and uphold traditional values.


Governor Adeleke expressed optimism about the new king’s reign, highlighting the promise of cultural pride and socio-economic progress for Ijeshaland.


The coronation marks a significant moment for Ijeshaland, signaling a new era of leadership rooted in tradition and community development.
