Bellingham hails Alonso’s “amazing ideas” as Real Madrid battle into Club World Cup next stage

Jude Bellingham lavished praise on Xabi Alonso’s tactical prowess after Real Madrid fought back from an early red card to defeat Pachuca 3‑1 in the FIFA Club World Cup. The England midfielder, named Man of the Match, described Alonso’s in-game adjustments as “amazing ideas” .

Despite Raúl Asencio’s dismissal in just the seventh minute, Madrid displayed resilience and a cohesive shape shift, credits to the manager’s guidance. “The manager decided to change shape, and we all took that responsibility well... the coaches' ideas are amazing, and we want to keep going,” Bellingham said during the post-match press conference.

Bellingham also reflected on his own contribution, opening the scoring in the 35th minute and helping the team absorb pressure after going down a man. “Courtois was magnificent,” he noted, praising the goalkeeper’s ten saves .

The 21‑year‑old midfielder confirmed that he will undergo shoulder surgery after the tournament, expressing relief that his persistent injury will finally be addressed.

Alonso, who succeeded Carlo Ancelotti earlier this year, is earnestly implementing a proactive, fluid system. He has emphasized using Bellingham in a central midfield role—ideally as an “8” or “10”—a position where his influence can be maximized.

The victory over Pachuca marked Alonso’s first competitive win at Madrid. Real Madrid will now face Red Bull Salzburg in their final Group H fixture, holding a strong position to advance.
