President Tinubu Arrives in Makurdi to Address Security Crisis in Benue State

President Bola Tinubu landed at the Nigerian Air Force Base Tactical Air Command in Makurdi, Benue State, today at approximately 12:58 pm. The visit follows a recent massacre in the Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area, where over 100 lives were lost in a brutal attack.

The President’s itinerary includes a visit to Yelwata, where he will console victims' families and assess the situation firsthand. He is also scheduled to visit hospitals treating the injured and engage with key local stakeholders including traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, and youth representatives during a town hall meeting aimed at finding lasting peace solutions.

Benue State declared June 18 a public holiday to facilitate participation in the events surrounding the President’s visit. This visit underscores the federal government’s commitment to restoring security in Benue, with top officials such as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Security Adviser already deployed to the state for assessment.

President Tinubu postponed a planned trip to Kaduna State to prioritize this urgent mission, signaling the administration’s determination to tackle the security challenges head-on and bring relief to the affected communities.
