NASA’s Sean Duffy Responds to Kim Kardashian’s Moon Landing Claims

In a striking public exchange, NASA acting administrator Sean Duffy has refuted Kim Kardashian’s recent assertion that the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing was fabricated. The claim came to light during an episode of Kardashian’s Hulu series, "The Kardashians," released on October 30, 2025, where she expressed scepticism about the historic event.

On-screen, Kardashian is seen discussing her doubts with co-star Sarah Paulson. She reads an article that she says quotes astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon, suggesting the mission "didn’t happen." Kardashian tells Paulson, “I centre conspiracies all the time,” and adds, “I think it was fake.” She mentions sending numerous articles to support her claims and questions if Buzz Aldrin’s interviews indicate he now disputes the moon landing.

Sean Duffy directly addressed these claims on the social media platform X, responding to Kardashian with a firm correction: “Yes, @KimKardashian, we’ve been to the Moon before… six times!” He highlighted NASA’s ongoing Artemis program, which aims to send astronauts back to the lunar surface. “We triumphed in the last space race, and we will prevail in this one as well,” Duffy stated.

Following his response, Kardashian asked Duffy about the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, prompting him to provide a scientific explanation and even invite her to visit Kennedy Space Centre for the next Artemis launch. This unusual public conversation has sparked widespread attention as it juxtaposes pop culture celebrity with high-level scientific leadership.

The moon landing conspiracy theories, though persistently debunked by experts and extensive evidence, have resurfaced through Kardashian’s comments. Duffy’s engagement with Kardashian symbolises the agency’s effort to address these claims while promoting public interest in space exploration.
