Rivers State Police Dispel Viral Herdsmen Attack Claims, Warn Against Misinformation
The Rivers State Police Command has categorically dismissed claims of a Fulani herdsmen attack in the state, labelling circulating viral videos and reports as false and fabricated attempts to incite panic and destabilise peace. According to the police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, there has been no incident or intelligence suggesting any such attack has taken place anywhere in Rivers State.
The command urged residents to disregard these reports and refrain from sharing unverified content that could escalate tensions or damage the state's peaceful reputation.
The viral video circulating on social media purportedly showed a community under siege by armed Fulani herdsmen, with youths from the Ijaw ethnic group allegedly repelling the attackers. However, the police clarified that the footage is not connected to any event in Rivers State and was deliberately spread by mischief-makers. The command described the footage as fabricated, emphasising its role in spreading misinformation designed to create fear and panic among the public.
