Public and private primary and secondary schools across Ekiti State are scheduled to reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026, marking the commencement of the second term in the 2025/2026 academic session.
The announcement came from the Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye, in an official statement released on Saturday in the state capital, Ado Ekiti. The directive follows the conclusion of the first term and the extended holiday period that accommodated the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
"All teachers and learners are expected to resume on the announced date, as academic activities will commence immediately," Aderiye stated. She described the return to school as "a new chapter", emphasising that students would engage in a blend of rigorous academic pursuits and enriching extracurricular programmes throughout the term.
The commissioner reaffirmed the state government's steadfast commitment to educational excellence. “The resumption marks a new chapter as students are expected to engage in various academic and extracurricular activities throughout the term, with the state poised for a more productive year in education,” she said. “Ekiti State Government will continue to provide the direction and regulations needed for excellent outcomes from schools.”
Parents and guardians have been urged to facilitate prompt compliance, with school administrators expected to ensure facilities and staff readiness.
