The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially scheduled its National Convention for April 14, 2026, marking a pivotal step in the party’s effort to overhaul its leadership and strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of future elections.

The party’s National Organising Secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo, and the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the decision in a joint statement released late Saturday. The leadership explained that the upcoming activities are essential for the party to fulfill its constitutional mandate of renewing its organisational structures.

According to the official timetable, the electoral process will commence at the foundational level with Polling Unit and Ward Congresses scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, 2026. This will be followed by Local Government Area Congresses on Thursday, April 9, and State Congresses on Saturday, April 11, before culminating in the national assembly in Abuja.

The leadership emphasised that this series of congresses is designed to ensure a bottom-up approach to party governance. In their official notice, Idigo and Abdullahi stated that the process forms part of the party's responsibility to renew its leadership structures across all levels of the organisation.

The party has also opened the floor for internal competition, directing members interested in contesting for vacant executive positions at any level to obtain the necessary nomination and expression of interest forms via the official ADC website

The ADC has recently positioned itself as a primary alternative to the dominant political parties in Nigeria, focusing on institutional reforms and increased citizen participation. Party officials have urged all members to adhere strictly to the guidelines to ensure a transparent and credible transition.
