Mikkel Damsgaard scored a dramatic 93rd-minute winner to secure a 4-3 victory for Brentford over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday. The Danish international’s second goal of the afternoon arrived just as the hosts appeared to have completed a recovery from a three-goal deficit.

The visitors established a commanding lead within the opening 35 minutes, capitalising on a fragile Burnley defence. Damsgaard opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a header from a Dango Ouattara corner, followed by Igor Thiago’s 18th league goal of the season. When Kevin Schade tapped home a third in the 34th minute, a rout seemed inevitable.

Burnley’s resurgence began in first-half stoppage time when a cross deflected off Brentford’s Michael Kayode for an own goal. The momentum shifted entirely after the interval as Jaidon Anthony's clinical finish and a Zian Flemming header pulled the Clarets level by the hour mark. The home side briefly thought they had taken the lead through Flemming in the 79th minute, but the goal was overturned by VAR for a marginal offside against Anthony.

In a frantic final sequence, Damsgaard restored the Bees’ lead by slotting home a Rico Henry cross deep into added time. There was further controversy in the 99th minute when veteran Ashley Barnes bundled the ball into the net for what looked like a last-gasp equaliser, only for VAR to intervene again and rule the goal out for handball.

"It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but the character we showed to find a winner after losing a three-goal lead is immense," Brentford manager Keith Andrews said, according to Sky Sports. The win cements Brentford’s seventh-place position as they push for European qualification.

Burnley manager Scott Parker expressed his frustration at the narrow margins, telling reporters that his side showed "incredible spirit" to fight back but were ultimately "crushed" by the late decisions and clinical finishing of the opposition. The defeat leaves Burnley 19th in the table, eight points adrift of safety.
