President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially administered the oath of office to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance on Monday, formalizing a key addition to the administration’s economic team.
The brief swearing-in ceremony took place at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the President's office at the State House, Abuja. The event followed Oyedele's successful screening and subsequent confirmation by the Senate on March 12, 2026.
Oyedele, a renowned 50-year-old fiscal policy expert and accountant, replaces Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite. Following a minor cabinet reshuffle, Uzoka-Anite has been redeployed to serve as the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning.
The new minister previously served as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. During his tenure, he spearheaded the development of four landmark tax reform bills designed to consolidate Nigeria’s fragmented revenue system and stimulate growth.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time as the administration implements a new tax regime that took effect on January 1, 2026. This overhaul includes zero income tax for low-income earners and exemptions for 97% of small businesses, a policy framework Oyedele helped architect.
President Tinubu described the appointment as a move to strengthen the Federal Executive Council with dedicated professionals. Oyedele is expected to work closely with the substantive Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to harmonise fiscal policies and restore investor confidence in Africa's largest economy.
