Iran's national football team left a handwritten message pleading for "peace, respect and friendship" among nations in their SoFi Stadium dressing room following a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Belgium on Sunday that kept their 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout hopes alive.

The note, released by the Football Federation of Iran (FFIRI), expressed gratitude to Los Angeles for its hospitality and pride in representing their country amid significant challenges.

"From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilised Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast," the message read. "We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honour, and leave with dignity."

It continued: "Thank you Los Angeles for your hospitality. And thanks to every Iranian who gave their heart, voice and soul for Iran throughout these 180 minutes. May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations."

The gesture comes as Iran competes in the tournament while its government engages in negotiations with the United States — a co-host of the World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico — to end an ongoing conflict. The note also referenced the deadly strike on a girls' school in Minab on the first day of the war, which killed at least 156-175 people, mostly children.

On the pitch, goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand delivered an outstanding performance with multiple key saves as Iran held a Belgian side reduced to 10 men after Nathan Ngoy's red card. Belgium dominated possession and shots but failed to score, leaving both teams with four points from two Group G matches.

FFIRI officials highlighted the team's resilience despite logistical and geopolitical hurdles, including travel from a base in Tijuana, Mexico.

Iran's campaign continues with their final group fixture, where a positive result could secure a historic advancement.
