President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has concluded his month-long working vacation in Europe and departed Paris, France, for Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, heading first to Lagos for high-profile civic and political engagements.
The presidency confirmed the Nigerian leader's homeward journey in an official State House announcement, noting that the presidential aircraft is scheduled to land at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos later this evening.
According to Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the head of state elected to route his return through Lagos to take part in national commemorations before proceeding to the seat of government in Abuja.
On Nigeria's Independence Day, October 1, the President will attend the premiere of a film honouring Abiola, the winner of the historic June 12, 1993 presidential election, at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu.
Beyond ceremonial tributes, the President is set to hold high-stakes consultations with key political leaders and associates in Lagos over several days, laying early strategic groundwork ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu originally departed Abuja on August 30 for his annual leave, spending a week in London before transitioning to Paris for official diplomatic meetings and private engagements.
While in the French capital, Tinubu held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and engaged corporate leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, to discuss investments across media and digital platforms including Canal+, MultiChoice, and Universal Music Group.
He also met with Nigerian industrialist and Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola, on Monday to discuss domestic investment frontiers.
The Paris trip was highlighted by a major commercial breakthrough last week, when Tinubu oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and global maritime operator DP World.
The multibillion-dollar agreement outlines a $7 billion capital investment by DP World to develop the Gateway Deep Seaport at Ogun Waterside alongside a 10,000-hectare Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.
The presidency stated that Tinubu will return to his official base in Abuja as soon as his political and commemorative schedule in Lagos concludes.
