The United States has delivered a new consignment of military hardware to the Nigerian Air Force to strengthen West African regional security and counter-terrorism capabilities.
According to official statements released Thursday by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), a heavy-lift U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft transported the defense consignment directly to Nigerian Air Force bases located in Lagos and Kainji.
The military hardware transfer was fulfilled under an existing government-to-government Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract designed to enhance Nigeria's operational capacity against armed insurgent networks in the region.
"The equipment is part of a foreign military sales agreement that furthers the U.S.-Nigerian partnership and will aid in Nigeria's efforts to counter terrorism in the region," AFRICOM announced in an official statement.
The defense command emphasised the legal framing of the bilateral defense relationship, adding, "U.S. military support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria is by its invitation and rooted in respect for Nigerian sovereignty."
The strategic airlift arrives alongside ongoing technical training engagements, where American military instruction teams provide specialized training for Nigerian Air Force personnel on intelligence, surveillance, and unmanned aircraft operations.
