Saudi Aramco Headquarters Attacked, Limited Fire Reported

The headquarters of Saudi Aramco in the eastern city of Dhahran was attacked late Tuesday, causing a limited fire in an administrative building, Saudi Arabia's Energy Ministry said.

Authorities responded to the incident and took necessary measures, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. There were no injuries or deaths.

A company source told Reuters that a ballistic missile hit the Aramco headquarters complex in Dhahran. The source said an office tower was struck and its top three floors were damaged. Two other people with knowledge of the matter said the building was on fire.

The Dhahran complex hosts a major operations center for Aramco, which oversees a vast network of onshore and offshore oil rigs, pipelines, refineries and export terminals.

The attack comes as fighting between Yemen's Iran-allied Houthis and the kingdom intensified. The Houthis have for a week been firing ballistic missiles and drones at key Saudi sites in retaliation for the kingdom's backing of government forces in Yemen's reignited civil war.

Riyadh's international airport has received four strikes, including one on Saturday that killed 13 people. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted missiles targeting the capital, southern region and Dhahran.

"The Saudi-led coalition said fragments of a missile that it had intercepted and destroyed in Dhahran had fallen on a residential area," officials said.

The Houthis on Wednesday vowed to press on with attacks on airports and oil facilities, declaring them legitimate military targets.

The assault is the first time Aramco's corporate headquarters has been directly hit. Brent crude rose above $105 a barrel on Wednesday as traders weighed supply risks from the escalating conflict and attacks on tankers around the Strait of Hormuz.
