President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of six Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for federal hospitals across Nigeria. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointment in a statement released on Friday. The statement, titled "President Tinubu appoints six chief medical directors for federal hospitals," highlights the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare leadership across the nation. These appointments are for a tenure of four years and include both new and reappointed CMDs.
Among the appointees is Prof. Olusegun Sylvester Ojo, who will serve as the CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State. Prof. Ojo is a distinguished medical expert who previously served as the pioneer CMD of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital. Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi was reappointed as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, following his exemplary performance during his first term.
Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum was confirmed as the substantive CMD of the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State, after serving in an acting capacity. Similarly, Dr. Ikrama Hassan was appointed as CMD of the newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State; he previously led Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital.
The list also includes Dr. Ali Mohammed Ramat, now CMD of the newly established National Orthopedic Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State, and Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu, who will head the newly established Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to uphold professionalism and accountability in their roles to ensure quality healthcare delivery for Nigerians.
