Seattle police are investigating a brazen daylight robbery that saw armed thieves steal $2 million worth of jewelry from a high-end store in less than two minutes.
The robbery took place Friday at Menashe & Sons Jewelers, a family-owned shop in West Seattle known for its luxury collection. According to police, a group of masked suspects stormed the store armed with bear spray and a Taser, subduing staff before smashing display cases and grabbing valuables.
The entire heist lasted approximately 90 seconds, with the suspects escaping in a getaway vehicle before officers arrived. No injuries were reported, though store employees were left shaken.
Seattle Police Department detectives said they are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking tips from the public. “This was a highly coordinated, professional operation,” said SPD spokesperson Det. Valerie Carson.
The robbery comes amid a rising wave of organized retail crime across the United States, where smash-and-grab thefts have surged in major cities. Jewelry stores in particular have become prime targets due to the high resale value of luxury goods.
Menashe & Sons Jewelers, in operation for over 50 years, pledged to remain open despite the theft. “We are heartbroken but grateful no one was hurt,” owner Jack Menashe said.
Authorities are urging pawn shops and second-hand dealers to be alert for attempts to offload the stolen jewelry. Investigators have not yet disclosed whether the suspects are linked to previous robberies in the area.
