President Tinubu Calls for Peace and Religious Tolerance at Burial of APC Chairman’s Mother in Plateau State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu attended the funeral of Nana Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe, the mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Jos, Plateau State. During the solemn occasion, the President stressed the importance of peace and religious tolerance as fundamental values for the unity and progress of Nigeria.

In his address, President Tinubu urged Nigerians to reject hatred and divisiveness along ethnic and religious lines. He shared a personal anecdote highlighting religious harmony within his own family, where he is a Muslim and his wife is a Christian pastor, emphasising that differences in faith should not lead to conflict or attempts to convert each other. Tinubu encouraged the nation to foster mutual respect and love, underscoring that there is no place for hate in Nigeria.

The President praised religious leaders present at the event, acknowledging their critical role in promoting peace and unity across the country. He called on them to sustain their efforts in championing reconciliation and understanding among diverse communities. The President reiterated the need for strong political leadership and commitment to peacebuilding to end cycles of violence and retaliation.

The funeral drew a notable gathering of political figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and governors from Plateau and Akwa Ibom states, Caleb Mutfwang and Umo Eno, respectively. Governor Mutfwang welcomed President Tinubu’s visit, acknowledging the ongoing efforts by the state government to restore peace and stability in Plateau, which has experienced turmoil in recent months.

President Tinubu’s presence was seen as a powerful message of solidarity to the family of the late Nana Lydia Yilwatda. During the service, President Tinubu offered prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul and comfort to the grieving family, honouring Nana Lydia Yilwatda’s legacy of faith and community service.
