The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended 13 suspects in connection with the violent disruptions during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre, which left two people dead and several others injured on Wednesday.

The arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation ordered by the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal. According to a statement released Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspects were picked up at strategic locations after sustained surveillance by operatives of the Idanre Division.

The violence, which broke out during the ruling party’s internal elections on February 18, 2026, resulted in the destruction of property and the torching of at least one vehicle. Among those severely affected was Raphael Adetimehin, brother of the State APC Chairman, who was reportedly targeted and left in a coma.

"The suspects are currently in police custody and have made useful statements that are aiding ongoing investigations," Jimoh stated. He added that the command is working to identify additional collaborators and determine the specific roles played by each individual in the "heinous act".

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has condemned the unrest, distancing his administration from the pockets of violence and ordering security agencies to ensure all perpetrators face the full weight of the law. In a statement via his spokesperson, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor urged political aspirants to call their supporters to order, emphasising that his administration would not tolerate a breakdown of law and order.

Commissioner Lawal has reiterated the command's resolve to maintain peace, urging residents of Idanre and the wider state to remain calm. He appealed to the public to provide timely information that could enhance security efforts as the investigation continues.
