The Bayelsa State Government has declared Friday, 10 April 2026, a work-free day to facilitate the official visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The President is scheduled to arrive in the state capital, Yenagoa, to inaugurate several high-impact infrastructure projects completed under Governor Douye Diri’s administration.

Governor Diri announced the public holiday during an Easter Sunday service at St Peter's Anglican Church in Sampou. He emphasised that the visit represents a pivotal moment for the state's economic transformation. The Governor called on residents to accord the President a warm reception, noting that the events will showcase the state’s potential for investment and industrial growth.

Among the "legacy projects" set for commissioning is the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge. This structure is a historic milestone for the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, providing the first direct road link to Yenagoa in over sixty years. Governor Diri described the bridge as a project that "changes the reality" for hinterland communities historically cut off from the state capital.

In addition to the bridge, President Tinubu will inaugurate a 60-megawatt gas turbine power station at Elebele. This facility is intended to provide a more reliable electricity supply to stimulate local manufacturing. The presidential itinerary also includes the commissioning of a new road linking Gbarantoru to the New Yenagoa City development.

Speaking on the importance of the infrastructure, Governor Diri stated that "power is a major driver of economic growth" and that these projects are central to his "Assured Prosperity" agenda. He urged the public to turn out in large numbers to welcome the President, highlighting the peaceful and hospitable nature of the Ijaw people.

The state capital has undergone significant aesthetic improvements ahead of the visit. Security has also been bolstered across key locations to ensure a seamless programme. Officials have confirmed that the commissioning ceremonies will begin early on Friday morning before the President returns to Abuja.
