President Donald Trump has declared that any nation found supplying military weaponry to Iran will be hit with an immediate 50 per cent tariff on all goods exported to the United States.
The announcement, made via Truth Social on Wednesday, follows the establishment of a fragile two-week ceasefire between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. The President stated that the move is designed to prevent Tehran from rebuilding its military capabilities as negotiations for a permanent peace deal begin.
"A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately," Mr Trump wrote. He further emphasised that the policy would be absolute, asserting, "There will be no exclusions or exemptions!"
The escalation comes as the White House shifts its strategy toward what the President described as a "very productive regime change" in the Islamic Republic. Under the terms of the temporary truce, Tehran has reportedly agreed to halt uranium enrichment and partially reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the threat, Mr Trump indicated that the U.S. is concurrently "talking Tariff and Sanctions relief with Iran" as part of a 15-point proposal for long-term stability. The President claimed that many of these points have already been agreed upon, including a joint project to remove "nuclear dust" from Iranian facilities.
U.S. Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth noted that while military objectives have been met, the administration will use economic levers to ensure compliance.
